FORT LAUDERDALE--This past April, Nova Southeastern Geriatric Education Center and the Florida Geriatrics Society sponsored the 2nd Annual Interdisciplinary Symposium: Addressing the Clinical Changes of Elder Care.

Numerous members of the Florida Geriatrics Society attended presentations on topics which spanned the ever-widening spectrum of elder care. Presentations focused on assessment strategies for critical areas like driving safety, elder abuse, and dementia (continued below)...

Preventive and chronic care were also covered, with discussions of oral and foot care, fall prevention, and obesity in the elderly. The latest research on osteoporosis was reviewed, along with broader health-care issues like diversity in medical care and the prognosis for improving geriatric care in the United States.

All in all, April's meeting was a fun and productive experience - an opportunity to touch base with colleagues and friends, make new connections, and enjoy top-notch presentations from leading geriatrics educators. Next year's meeting will run from March 19 - 21, 2010, a full month earlier than this year's symposium. So check back here early and often for more details, and make your reservations early!
