As I begin my tenure as FGS President I want to share some of the plans the board and I have discussed for continuing to build and strengthen our association.
First, we are committed to helping members find high quality continuing education. Planning is underway for another annual continuing education meeting to be held in the Tampa area in June 2012. Full details will be available soon. Be sure to complete your FGS membership for meeting discounts! Please check back here soon for additional meeting and membership information.
Second, we want to stay connected with our members as well as serve as a networking foundation for all geriatrics providers in Florida. We will have a Facebook site soon and will be looking for friends like you!!
Speaking of friends, we would like to increase membership across all disciplines. Did you know that Geriatrics has been called medicine's first "team sport?" Of course YOU did!! I am sure you agree that those of us caring for older adults, be they physicians, nurses, social workers, or therapists of all sorts, are a uniquely dedicated group of professionals. Think of the potential of networking together for continuing education, sharing best practices, referrals, etc. Stay tuned for information about our 2012 membership drive.
Finally, once the legislature is back in session, we will take our place among those monitoring important bills in Tallahassee.
These are just a few of the areas we will focus on in the coming months. We look forward to seeing you in June. But please feel free to contact us at any time with ideas, questions, or concerns.
Sincerely,
Rosemary Laird, MD
President
